“Watercolor: All In the Family”

Our family watercolor exhibit is having a good stay at the Healdsburg Senior Center, through Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017. My paintings, my brother’s paintings, and our dad’s work, which inspired both Ron and I. If you’re headed to the Sonoma Wine Country, stop by the center and take a look at our show. (The center isn’t open on weekends, alas.) Or come to the artists’ reception, Friday, March 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! 133 Matheson St., Healdsburg — just off the plaza.

“A master at creative effects”

Nice remark from the editor of the Riverfront Art Gallery’s RAGSheet newsletter about one of my two accepted entries in their annual juried photography show. This is Petaluma’s preeminent gallery, downtown on the river, and they have receptions every second Saturday. See my calendar for details of the venue. My two digital images are Canyon Song (16″x24″ print on aluminum) and Mare Island Mix (18″x24″ print on canvas, float-mounted and framed).

“It’s a beautiful day for a watercolor. Let’s paint two.”

On the horizon, a family show of watercolors by me, my brother Ron, and our dad, Ronald E. Bean. Beautiful and affordable original paintings on exhibit for three weeks only, in the gallery downstairs from my studio at Art Works Downtown. Ron and I often went out sketching with our dad, whose talent and love of watercolors inspired us both. Hope you can come to the opening reception on Friday, February 12!

And in case you were wondering about that quote: it’s something we three used to say a lot, paraphrasing legendary Chicago Cub Ernie Banks who said, “It’s a beautiful day for a ball game. Let’s play two.”

More details on our Facebook event page.

Special award winner

Happy to discover one of my pieces at the Marin County Fair fine art exhibit won an award! “Far More Blue” (shown here next to its companion “Unsquare Dance”) won a special award and gift certificate from Perry’s art store. The exhibit is as fabulous and massive as ever. Hope you can visit the fair!

Street painting festivals past

San Rafael’s Italian Street Painting Festival started in 1994. I participated for six years, 1995 to 2000, and often had my brother Ron and my dad Ron helping me. My dad last participated in 1998 at age 90. I hope I’m never persuaded to draw on pavement when (if) I’m that age, good grief! But he enjoyed it and it was wonderful to have his good humor, enthusiasm, and talent with us. My brother and I recreated one of our dad’s watercolors for the 2000 festival. Below are snaps from the 1998, 1999, and 2000 festivals.
